School Information

The Piccola Università Italiana is the only Italian language school in Calabria, offering an accredited Italian language course program. The Italian language courses are recognized by the Italian Ministry.

Each year, the Piccola Università Italiana serves close to 500 people participating in approximately 150 Italian courses.

The courses are limited to 3 to 6 students per class and the students are divided into 11 language course levels!

Our teachers are well qualified native speakers and hold degrees in Italian literature and/or language.

Curriculum Highlights

The Piccola Università Italiana offers different academic study abroad programs. The Academic Credits will either be awarded by the Minnesota State University Mankato (http://sbs.mnsu.edu/advisingu/StudyAbroad9-11-07.html) or in cooperation with the Centro Fray Luis de León (http://italy.centrofrayluis.com/).

An official Transcript with certificates of achievement will be issued by the Piccola Università Italiana upon successful completion of the language component.

The students will be divided into 11 different language performance levels during the oral and written grading test on the first day of school.

Setting

The Piccola Università Italiana is situated in the heart of the old town of Tropea, a charming medieval town right by the sea. Tropea lies on the same latitude as the famous Aeolian Islands. Italians affectionately refer to Tropea as the “Pear of Calabria”. Tropea was built on a 42 m high rock and never fails to charm everyone with its romantic, winding streets. Here you find unspoilt natural landscapes with lush green vegetation, forming a magnificent contrast with the turquoise crystal-clear water of the sea.

The Italian language school itself is located in a beautiful 18th century palazzo.
