Camp Type: DHD Friendship Camps are specifically designed for children with ADD, ADHD, Sensory Integration Disorder and Learning Disabilities. Camp classes are limited to 4-5 children.
Focus: Our Camps are completely customized to meet your specific needs. When your child arrives at camp, there won't be 10 or 20 other kids running around-so he or she won't feel overwhelmed. We will know your child's nickname and favorite things to do, and get him involved right away helping us with activities.
Gender: Coed
Pricing: Multiple Camp options with various pricing plans. All Camps are customized for the child. Limited to 4-5 children per Camp class. Choose from weekend, full week, multiple week and specialty Camp programs.
Notes: Come find out why every child who comes to our Camps wants to stay. Never underestimate the power of having someone in your child's life who listens, believes in them, sees good things inside and draws out gifts and passions that often go unrewarded.
Slogan:
Peace at Home. Success in School. Confidence Inside.

Five Goals of the Camp

1. Build Confidence. We know that the most effective way to build each child's confidence is to cultivate his natural gifts, talents and passions. While our kids have amazing abilities that are not usually rewarded and recognized in school, we celebrate each other's gifts and talents at Camp.

Many difficulties with social skills result from insecurity: the constant need to control or dictate rules of a game, the incessant need to "one-up" everyone else ("Oh, yeah, well I have more than you..."). We will help your child first develop the confidence necessary to reach out to others in a healthy way.

2. Build Friendships and Social Skills. How do adults form friendships? Usually, it is based on shared passions and interests. Our camps provide an opportunity for little builders to build together; for more creative kids to share their artistic and musical talents; for athletes to play together; for car lovers to gawk at Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

We also teach the kids relationship-building skills through modeling, role-playing, games and observation. Your child will learn how to read non-verbal language and facial expressions; make friends by asking questions instead of talking all the time; respect personal space; put themselves in others' shoes to build empathy; learn how to deal with bullies; value relationships more than being right/proving their point, etc.

Our Camps provide countless opportunities to "teach in the moment." We praise healthy interaction and instruct children how to relate to others more effectively.

3. Teach Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution. To be successful in life, everyone needs to learn how to solve problems. In most environments, teachers and parents have no choice but to try to prevent conflict and separate kids when there is an issue. But the kids never learn how to resolve issues and find common ground.

At Camp, we use conflict to teach problem-solving skills. When you put a group of naturally-born attorneys and policemen together, you know what happens! So rather than yell at the kids or separate them, we call time out and teach the kids how to work through their issues in positive, constructive ways. This is hard, hard work. But absolutely critical.

4. Build Purpose, Meaning and Responsibility. Our kids thrive when they are given purposeful, meaningful projects to complete. We will use your child's natural gifts and talents to help others-whether it is making a gift for a children's hospital or the elderly, we will show your child how they can use their gifts to connect to something larger in life.

Our kids are eager to change--after all, who enjoys being in trouble all the time?! Learning self-awareness and self-regulation are skills that last a lifetime. But they are no different than developing other skills--it takes practice.

At Camp, we have fun, but we don't baby the kids. They serve dinner, they take out the trash, they clean up and they learn the satisfaction that comes with responsibility.

5. Equip Parents. You are the most important person in your child's life. Through our phone consultations, ongoing coaching during and after camp, practical E-Courses and Special Reports, we will equip you with all the tools you need. This insight in invaluable and we relish this time with you.

We also encourage and facilitate friendships outside of Camp. This not only helps our kids, it also provides parents with an opportunity to connect with other parents who share the same struggles...and who "get" their kids without the need to explain or apologize.

We do not call this an ADHD Camp or mention ADHD to the kids. They know it as Friendship Camp-a place to be with new friends who share common interests. Our kids need a sense of belonging...and they will get it at Camp.
