Philosophy / Belief Statament

Brockton Christian's educational philosophy emphasizes a well-rounded curriculum which prepares children academically, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

Our teachers maintain state certification, and many have advanced degrees.  Spiritually,   Bible class is a daily staple—equal in importance to the teachers' own Christian example.

BCS also offers fine arts — both vocal and Instrumental music.  An afterschool UBC (Ultimate Body Fitness) class is offered for grades K—8, along with Sport Stacking, yearbook, and areas of service for students.

At Brockton Christian School , we are focusing on the basics of Christianity, integrating faith into daily life, and developing the discipline and values necessary to succeed both in higher education and all of life.

The ministry of Brockton Christian School is designed to help, in cooperation with the local church, to support parents in their God-given responsibility in “train(ing) a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”  (Proverbs 22:6)  We strongly believe in the partnership of the school, the home, and the church.

Therefore, our goal is to guide children in grades PreK – 8 to grow as Jesus did, “in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.”  (Luke 2:52)

Philosophy / Belief Statament (Contd.)

All staff members of Brockton Christian School are committed, born-again believers who are members of evangelical churches.  Teachers are expected to maintain state or ACSI certification, and are encouraged to pursue continuing education and advanced degrees.  Teachers are Christian role models (I Timothy 4:12), both in and out of school, (Luke 6:40) for students.  Teachers and staff work together as a team to plan and carry out the day-to-day operation of the school.

The goal of teaching is to help children develop a biblical worldview, including character development, peacemaking skills, respect for others, and a development of a Biblical standard of ethics.

Brockton Christian School uses a variety of curriculum that promotes high academic standards, and is taught with an awareness of state and national standards.  Biblical principles are integrated into each area of curriculum taught.  Current strategies and models of teaching are used, combining the best of traditional and current teaching practices.  Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking skills, and technology is utilized within the classroom to access information and promote creativity.

It is imperative to foster a creative, safe learning environment for children while maintaining a limited class size to optimize learning of all students.  Diversity and unity are celebrated within the school family.  Each classroom is designed for the encouragement of all students, as instruction is given in both full class and small groups.

School History

Brockton Christian School was founded in 1959 by a group from Trinity Baptist Church , along with Miss Jean Neely.  The first few classes were Kindergarten students, giving academic preparation for first grade, along with Biblical integration.  Gradually, other classes were added until the school grew to Grades K – 8 in the late 1970s.  A Preschool class was added in the early 1990s.  Now, BCS ministers to approximately 100 children from the greater Brockton area.  The student body is comprised of children from many cultural backgrounds and denominations.

Notes

Brockton Christian School is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and is recognized by the School Committee of the Brockton Public Schools as an approved elementary school under the guidelines of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts .

Facility:
Brockton Christian School is located in the Campello section of Brockton , near the West Bridgewater town line.  The school occupies the former Keith estate, which has been expanded to include ten classrooms, school offices, and a library.  In addition, we share the Trinity Baptist Church facility, including the sanctuary and Fellowship Hall.

Class Size:
Ten full-time teachers and five part time teachers currently serve the student body of over 100.  Class size is small, with a maximum of 11 students in the PreK class, 22 students per class in grades K – 3, and 25 per class in grades 4 – 8.  Most classrooms have between 8 and 17 students per class.

Mission Statement

Student Body:

Fifty percent of students are of African American background while the remaining students are of Caucasian, Asian, or Hispanic backgrounds.  Seventy-five percent of the students reside in the city of Brockton while the remaining students live in 11 local communities, including Randolph , Stoughton , Easton , West Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, Taunton , Middleboro, and Carver.

Faculty:
All staff members are committed, born-again believers who are members of evangelical churches.  Teachers are expected to maintain state or ACSI certification, and are encouraged to pursue continuing education and advanced degrees.  Teachers are Christian role models, and work together as a team to encourage students to reach their full potential in Christ.

Philosophy/Belief Statement

School Program:
Brockton Christian School strives to provide a creative learning environment in a traditional setting.  All standard academic subjects are taught within the classroom.  The Bible is taught daily using the Scriptures as the final source of authority in daily life.  Students in grades K – 8 participate in weekly classes of Art, Music, and Physical Education.

Extra-Curricular Programs:
The Middle School students (grades 6 – 8) have the opportunity to participate in such activities as Service Club, chapel helpers, tech staff and Yearbook staff.  Participation is voluntary, and dependent upon academic as well as behavioral standing.

Academic Opportunities:
Each year, students in grades 6 – 8 participate in an all-school Science Fair.  An Honor Roll is published each quarter for grades 4 – 8.  Computers are in all classrooms, with internet access in grades 4 – 8, and word processing and educational programs in others.

Spiritual Life:
All students participate in daily class devotions and prayer.  Each year, the entire school concentrates on a scriptural theme for the year, allowing for character development and spiritual growth.  We use themes, such as character development and peace-making skills, concentrating on traits such as integrity, self discipline, and honesty.  Two chapels are held weekly, one for grades PreK – 3 and the other for Grades 4 - 8.
