Focus: The Frances Willard House tells the story of Frances Willard's life and work and provides a unique glimpse into the life of one of the most prominent social reformers in 19th century America . Willard rallied support many causes including temperance, woman's suffrage, women's economic and religious rights, education reforms and labor reforms from her position as President of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union,. A well-known author and public speaker, she captivated the imaginations and mobilized the sentiments of countless women.
Ages: All ages (Unfortunately, the museum is not handicapped accessible)
Costs: $5.00 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under. Free for FWHA and WCTU members.
Major Exhibits: The house is open for tours. Frances Willard's office, "the den," and her bedroom are recently restored

1. Frances Willard: A Biography for Elementary Students

2. Women and the Temperance Movement

This packet of lesson plan ideas and activities helps students understand the women's rights and temperance movements through the lens of one extraordinary woman's life and home.

•  Students examine and question primary evidence, such as readings, maps and photographs, to gain an understanding of the people and events that shaped one of the most transformative movements in American history.

•  Lessons are flexible and designed to enable teachers and students to learn from a historic place without leaving the classroom.

•  Geared for middle-school classes but flexible enough to be used in upper elementary and high school classes.

•  Price is $5.00 each.

Class Trip Programs:
Tours for school groups are available at the Frances Willard House. Tours focus on Frances Willard's key role in women's history, especially her work in the temperance and woman's suffrage movements. Tours are ideal for classes who are studying women's history, Evanston history and American history.

Tour Details:

•  Tours can be arranged for up to 20 students at one time.

•  Tours last one hour and cost $3 per student.

•  One adult must accompany every group of ten students.

•  Tours are limited to students 2 nd grade and older.

•  With advance notice, special tours can be arranged that focus on particular aspects of your curriculum.
