Savants are children who perform exceptional in one field but retarded in others. Usually they excel in math and have extreme trouble with verbal. The original term was deemed "idiot savant". In 1978 Dr. Bernard Rimland introduced the more appropriate term "autistic savant steaming from an article in Psychology Today.
