The mission of Holy Family School is to bring forth Christ to the people in the school communities – students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and those in the surrounding area. We commit ourselves to proclaim the Gospel, build faith communities, celebrate through worship and serve others. Our central purpose is to provide spiritual, intellectual, social and physical development in our students. |

Holy Family School is bound together under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We provide a faith-based Catholic Christian education, Christ-centered in its purpose and teachings. It is a balance of spiritual, moral, physical, emotional, and social growth as well as academic and intellectual development. Our philosophy is based on the premise that, in a Christian environment, all children will be successful, regardless of race, gender, or economic background. This can be accomplished when students are taught through love, acceptance and mutual respect as demonstrated in the teachings of the gospels. We strive to create a genuine community in which students can develop a healthy understanding of themselves based on their uniqueness in the sight of God and in our eyes. We use four components to spread the message of salvation proclaimed by Jesus Christ in the specific framework of a Catholic school: Word, Worship, Community, and Service. Catholic doctrine is presented to develop the spirituality and faith-life of each student. Christian values are taught to enhance an awareness of social justice, equity, and Christian service within each student. The pastor, parishioners, parents, teachers, and staff, as educators of our children, work together to build Christian relationships throughout Holy Family School . We strive to be examples of Christian life as we unite in service to one another and to the larger community. While the traditional approaches to intellectual development predominate in our classrooms, we strive to use a variety of teaching strategies and resources to meet the many learning styles of our students. Curriculum guidelines are provided by the Archdiocese of Baltimore. With the oversight of our administration and the assistance of the school curriculum committees, teachers meet the curriculum goals and hold students to Archdiocesan academic standards. Through classroom life and the social structure of the school, we teach students to live responsibly in a democratic society guided by the example of Christ the teacher. The students reflect our teaching as they move beyond the classroom to witness and celebrate Christ's message in the world. |
In September 1961, under the direction of two Sisters of Mercy, Holy Family School opened its doors to first and second graders. Each grade consisted of forty-five students. Before long, an addition to the school was built. By the late 1960's, Holy Family School had expanded to eight grades. We now have approximately 160 students in grades kindergarten through eight. In the autumn of 2001, we celebrated our 40 th anniversary. We have been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools since 1992. |
