| Mission & Philosophy/Belief Statement |
Mission Statement:
To provide choices and opportunties for persons with special needs to grow and develop in order to maximize the freedom and control they can bring to their lives.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
All children deserve and should be provided opportunities for learning and independent living. Lakemary understands the needs of those we serve - and strives to maximize opportunities for people to reach beyond their disabilities. |
Lakemary began in 1969 by the Ursuline Sisters in Paola, KS in response to a need demonstrated by parents and community residents for a residential school in order for children with mental retardation to thrive.
Lakemary Center operates a unique psychiatric residential treatment center for children who have developmental disabilities and concurrent psychiatric disorders. Learning opportunities at Lakemary's on-campus year round school are provided by full time credentialed staff. Treatment services are coordinated across settings 24/7 achieving an extraordinarily high degree of consistency. Many of the children that attend Lakemary school have experienced abuse and/or neglect. Lakemary has developed a range of effective interventions for these children.
