STATEMENT OF FAITH We believe in one true God, our eternal creator, an infinitely perfect being, existing in three persons: We believe in God the Father, the ruler of the universe and our heavenly Father (1 Timothy 1:2; 6:15, 16). We believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, true God and true man, our crucified and risen Savior and Lord; in His virgin birth; His sinless life; His miracles; His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood; His literal, bodily resurrection; His ascension to the right hand of the Father; and His personal, bodily return in power and glory (John 1:1-18; Isaiah 7:14, 9:6; Matthew 1; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Corinthians 15; Hebrews 1, 9, 10). |
||||
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who made us God's children by the new birth when we trusted Jesus Christ, and who is at work in our hearts prompting obedience and love for God (Romans 5:5; 8:13-17). We believe that all people have sinned against our holy and righteous God, and are therefore worthy of God's judgment (Romans 3:23; 6:23). We believe in the good news, that Jesus Christ died, bearing the penalty for our sins and was buried, that He rose again to provide forgiveness and eternal life for all who, by the grace of God, trust in Him alone (1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Romans 10:9-10). We believe in the grace of God, who has saved us, not because of who we are or what we have done, but as a gift received by faith alone (Titus 3:5-7; Ephesians 2:8-9). We believe in the universal church, invisibly uniting all true believers in our Lord Jesus Christ as brothers and sisters (1 Corinthians 12:12-13). We believe in local churches, visible gatherings of believers, for worship, fellowship, instruction, and service for Christ (Acts 2:42-47). We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29; 1 Corinthians 15).

Lighthouse Christian School was founded as an independent, interdenominational school in 1994 by a group of parents led by a vision. Under the direction of a parent-run Board of Directors, Lighthouse strives to fulfill its’ Mission Statement of existing “to glorify God by providing quality, Christ-centered education that will nurture students to become spiritually minded, academically versed, socially balanced, and equipped to make a positive impact in their community to the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” The seeds of Lighthouse began in the prayers of several teachers. Within months, an exploratory parent meeting was held and the foundation of Lighthouse was laid. Under God’s constant guidance this pioneer group witnessed one miracle after another. Blessed with the tremendous support of local churches (three of which provided classroom space), and a wonderful staff, Lighthouse opened its doors in the fall of 1994 to 90 students in grades K – 8. The first four years brought blessings in many forms, including new families and students, a growing staff of excellent teachers, and a superb administrator. But, there were many challenges in operating the school out of four locations (three churches and an office). A large part of the original vision was to house Lighthouse on its own campus. Because of the generosity of a very special couple who were willing to purchase and lease property for school use, this vision became reality. In the fall of 1998, classes for grades 1 – 8 and the administrative offices opened on the new 27-acre campus on 36th Street NW and Point Fosdick Drive NW. Through a wonderful gift in 2000, LCS became the title-holder of the campus property. The addition of two modular buildings in 2001 allowed for continued growth and for the Kindergarten classes to meet on campus. A subsequent capital campaign provided for a state-of-the-art 66,000 square foot facility which houses 33 classrooms, as well as dedicated computer and science labs, art and music rooms. Lighthouse is proud to offer a strong K-8 academic program, helping students to shine God’s light in the Gig Harbor community. |

2008-09 marks the beginning of a financial literacy course designed and taught by our Board Chair, Dennis Trittin. Dennis recently retired from Russell Investments after a 26 year career in finance. He served as an analyst, director of research and strategy, and portfolio manager of US equities. What our families say about the Lighthouse experience: |
“I wouldn't trade a single year of my children's education at Lighthouse for any other opportunity in the area. At Lighthouse, they have had teachers who go far beyond their duty in helping build character in an affirming way, they have friendships that will last a lifetime, they have a very strong academic base, and they are secure in themselves because of the Biblical foundation they have received…our daughter, 13, has shown such maturity in her faith as a result of mentors and friends she had at Lighthouse. ” “As parents of a kindergarten student at Lighthouse Christian, we feel blessed that our son is a part of a school where he is getting greater education along with the opportunity to worship and love the Lord as a part of his daily educational environment. Lighthouse is not just a school, but a family of teachers, students, and parents, coming together as one to glorify God. It is a great privilege to be a member of this family where the teachers are compassionate and caring, parents are involved and active participants in their child's learning , and the students reap the benefits of superior academics and God's amazing grace. And, they love their daily education! I am so grateful to God my son attends Lighthouse — a school where he can learn, pray, sing, and openly walk with Christ along with his peers. What a blessing! |
