The Lowell Whiteman School is a unique college preparatory high school in the mountains of beautiful Steamboat Springs , Colorado . Founded on principles of a strong traditional education and radical adventure, the school combines experiential education with high academic standards.
The three annual camping trips include backpacking, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, or mountain biking. The month-long spring foreign travel program has recently taken students to countries including Bhutan, Bolivia, Botswana, China, Chile, Costa Rica, India, Mongolia, Namibia, New Zealand, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Samoa, South Africa, Vietnam and more. With a competitive ski and snowboard program in a world-class location, LWS has seen 16 students and alums compete in the Olympics, including six in the most recent Olympics. Challenging academics focus on a traditional curriculum and revolve around small classes, personalized student attention, and out of class work.
The close-knit community, fun atmosphere, diverse activities and interests, and "work hard, play hard" philosophy make Whiteman as much a family and an experience as a superior education.
