Description:

CSM is unique in museums in that it has both Archives, including a non-circulation library, and Collections. In Archives, CSM has nearly 3,000 items, which includes magazines, books, record albums,CDs, casstette tapes, VHS and DVDs, and more. In Collections, CSM has about 200 surfboards, as well as trophies, clothing, wetsuits, board games, surfboard wax, and other epherma.

Northbound Interstate 5: Exit at Mission Avenue, Oceanside (exit 53). Continue westbound to Coast Highway. Turn right. Continue one block north and turn left onto Pier View Way. Go 1-1/2 blocks; CSM is on the right.

Mission Statement:

The California Surf Museum serves as an international repository and resource center on the lifestyle sport of surfing through capturing, preserving, and chronicling its art, culture and heritage for the education and enjoyment of future generations.

Facility History:

CSM is currently in its sixth location. The current city-owned facility, renovated to meet CSM's needs, is 5600 square feet, with a 3,000-sq.- ft exhibit hall, archives collections, workshop, Museum store, administrative offices, and a 400-sq.-ft. outdoor patio, the "Secret Spot".
