Name: New Horizons for Young Women |
||||
Our Mission is to support young women as they work to better understand themselves and what motivates their choices, relationships and behaviors. To establish healthy connections between young women and their families. To empower young women as they learn to navigate society and culture. And to challenge young women with empathy, respect, truth and support on their journey of personal growth.

New Horizons for Young Women is a therapy intervention program created especially for girls, by a girl. Females are our focus! At New Horizons, we provide a six to nine-week oasis for young women ages 13-18 who are having difficulties with the transition between "little girl" and womanhood — difficulties that are acted out in many different ways. Then, we work to empower each girl, so she can confidently meet the complex challenges of today's society. We do it by providing struggling young women with an opportunity to reflect on past decisions and future choices — and, if they choose to engage completely in our program — to discover their inner strength and the value of personal challenges and healthy relationships. |

First, let me start off by saying that I miss everyone so much. I think about you all every day of my life. I want you to know that you are all my angels and I could not be more grateful for you all to have been in my life. Nor could I love you any more than I already do. I really wish I could freeze those seven weeks of my life - you know - so I could just always be in Maine with you all forever and ever. Just kinda put those seven weeks on pause. I just really miss every single thing about Maine and especially the way I felt; the simplicity of everything to the clean, refreshing Maine air... you name it. When I got my 2-year anniversary card, I was sad and happy at the same time. Everything seemed so bittersweet. But, just hearing from you all made my day - just knowing I have people like you in my life is really comforting. So, I think you guys get the picture - I love you to death!” |
“Our entire family, both our nuclear family of four, and my extended family of brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and grandparents, have grown because of our daughter's experience at New Horizons. It has helped us all realize that we all need to ask for help sometimes, and sometimes we can only begin to heal when we are apart from each other and in the silence. Laura's plight brought us all to our knees. Laura's absence at Christmas made us all realize what this holiday truly means. Laura's letters were received with anticipation and joy. Everyone wanted to be a part of this process
because they love her so much. It made our already close-knit family even more united. It made us all treasure our time together.” |
