The Parent Teacher Association is a voluntary organization bringing together teachers and parents to a particular school to support various community events including fundraiser's to help the welfare of the school. Founded in 1897 in Washington D.C. as the National Congress of Mothers by Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst with a meeting of over 2000 parents, teachers, workers & legislators. It took the Name Parent-Teacher Association in 1908. There are chapter in ever city in America with over 6.5 million members. Some of various achievements of the organization include: The Creation of Kindergarten, passage of child labor laws, establishment of a public health service, hot school lunch programs, developing a juvenile justice system, and enforcing mandatory immunization.
