Project ACHIEVE is an innovative school reform and improvement program implemented in over 1,500 schools and districts across the country since 1990. Project ACHIEVE.s goal is to design and implement effective school and schooling processes to maximize the academic and social/emotional/ behavioral progress and achievement of all students.consistent with NCLB. It addresses the academic and behavioral needs of at-risk, underachieving, and special needs students by identifying strategic and intensive interventions using functional assessment and response-to-intervention approaches.consistent with IDEA. To accomplish its work, Project ACHIEVE uses interdependent components that include (a) developing effective School Improvement Plans, (b) implementing instructional practices in the classroom that lead to student achievement, (c) creating a Positive Behavioral Support System, (d) linking functional assessment to evidence-based intervention, (e) conducting formative and summative evaluation and accountability, and (f) parent/ community outreach/involvement. Howard M. Knoff, Ph.D. is a National Author, Lecturer, and Consultant; Director of Project ACHIEVE; author of the Stop & Think Social Skills Program, and Director of the Arkansas Department of Education.s State Improvement Grant. The two programs are designated evidence-based model (US Department of Health & Human Service's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) or promising (US Department of Justice) prevention programs. Dr. Knoff was Professor of School Psychology at the University of South Florida for 18 years and Director of the School Psychology Program there for 12 years. His Ph.D. degree is from Syracuse University (1980), and has worked since 1978 as a practitioner, consultant, licensed private psychologist, and university professor. Known for his research and writing in school reform and organizational change, consultation and intervention processes, social skills and behavior management training, personality assessment, and professional issues, Dr. Knoff has published more than 75 articles or book chapters and delivered over 500 papers or workshops nationally. A recipient of the Lightner Witmer Award from the American Psychological Association's School Psychology Division in 1989 for early career contributions and almost $4 million in external grants over the past five years, he was the 21st President of the National Association of School Psychologists which now represents over 22,000 school psychologists. Dr. Knoff is available to schools and districts both to facilitate the implementation of Project ACHIEVE and to provide professional development/in-service training in such areas as: 1. Dr. Knoff has been so helpful to me in developing programs for students in very challenging schools. His advice is both sound and practical. He embeds and braids information relative to social skills development and positive behavior supports into the fabric of schooling and provides a "Blueprint" and road map for effective school teams. Dr. Knoff and Project ACHIEVE align with federal legislation - No Child Left Behind and the Reauthorization of IDEA 2004. Achieve is nationally recognized and promoted by SAMSHA as a "Safe Schools" model. His work aligns with the work of the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDE) and "Response to Intervention (RTI) Practices..
