History:

Girl Scouts began in Savannah , Georgia , and was founded by Juliette Gordon Low. She organized the first group of girls on March 12, 1912. GSUSA was incorporated in Washington D.C. , June 10, 1915, and chartered by the United States Congress, March 16, 1950. It remains the largest organization for girls and women in the world. • 98% of Girl Scouts cooperate with each other and respect each other's differences.

• 99% of Girl Scout troops built and developed values by understanding and living the Girl Scout Law including specific values of honesty, integrity, and responsibility.

• 96% of troops developed a spirit of volunteerism and gave back to their communities through service projects and community service; 67% of girls participated in humanitarian focused projects while 27% of girls were involved with environmental service activities.

Program Information:

The Girl Scout program can change the way girls see the world and their place in it. Girls learn the importance of personal responsibility, the value of goal-setting, the spirit of teamwork, and the thrill of accomplishment. The Girl Scout program is based on the Girl Scout Promise and Law and four fundamental goals that encourage girls to:

  • Develop to their full potential.
  • Relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect.
  • Develop a meaningful set of values to guide their actions and to provide for sound decision-making.
  • Contribute to the improvement of society.

Girl Scouts are divided into four different age levels:

  • Daisy Girl Scouts (ages 5-6)
  • Brownie Girl Scouts (ages 6-8)
  • Junior Girl Scouts (ages 8-11)
  • Girls 11-17/ STUDIO 2B (ages 11-17)

Girl Scouts of Black Hawk Council, Inc., is chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA to provide Girl Scouting in all or parts of nine counties in south-central Wisconsin : Green, Dodge, Richland , Sauk, Columbia , Dane, Jefferson , Iowa , and Lafayette .

Black Hawk Council serves more than 9,000 girls and 2,000 adults from all socio-economic, ethnic, religious, rural and city populations.
