Activities:

The children will participate in various activities that are planned weekly and developed by the counselors and Unit Directors. Activities planned must be age-appropriate, fun, healthy, recreational, value-based, and developed in a timely manner. The activities are based on the following camp components which are: health & fitness, sports, group games, character development, recreational swimming (twice per week), arts & craft, creative arts, recreational reading, and trips. Every week a different theme and value is focused during the activity time. Parents and guardians receive a weekly schedule that states what, where, and when the activities will be conducted.

Additional Information:

The program provided by the Long Island City YMCA is a Summer Day Camp that will serve children from ages 3 to 16 years old. The children are separated into groups according to their age. The groups are as follows: Kinder Camp (3-4 year olds), Express Camp (5-8 year olds), Adventure Camp (9-11 years old), Movin' On Camp (12-14 years old), and teen camp (15 & 16 year olds).

All camp staff that are hired must participate in mandatory training, staff meetings, and parent orientations. They will attend 40 hours of training that include Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, Camp Components, Swimming and Safety Skills, Managing Children's Behavior, Roles and Responsibilities, CPR/First Aid, and much more. Each group will be supervised by the Unit Director. The Unit Director is in charge of supervising the children and staff, communicating with parents and the camp director, and completing all necessary reports and documents. The Unit Directors will report directly to the Camp Directors. Our goal is to train and teach the staff to the best of our abilities, maintain Department of Health, YMCA, NSACA, and ACA standards, and provide children with a safe and healthy environment.
