Computer Capabilities:
There are 4 computer labs: keyboarding class, computer literacy class, a writing/research lab in the library which all classes may access, and a yearbook lab. The library also has some computers which students may access before and after school and at lunch
School Championships:
In academic competition, the Academic Games team took many awards in the National Tournament, including team wins in Senior Division in Equations (3 rd ), On-Sets (2 nd ), Overall Team Sweeps (3 rd ). Two seniors placed 2 nd and 6 th in Individual Overall Sweepstakes.
The Chess team took the State Championship in the top-rated Open Division for the second consecutive year.
In the District Literary Rally, seven students placed first in their areas, qualifying for State competition.
The yearbook received an overall "Excellent" rating from SIPA (Southern Interscholastic Press Association).
In the athletic year, there were both individual and team successes: One runner placed 2 nd in District in Cross Country, one swimmer placed 1 st in the State in two events, the Volleyball team placed 2 nd in District and made it to the quarterfinal round of State playoffs; one wrestler placed 4 th in State, both the boys and girls basketball teams made the State playoffs with the girls making it to the Regional round, the Golf team placed 2 nd in the Regional competition, qualifying for State, the Baseball team made the State playoffs, winning the Bi-District round, the Softball team made the State playoffs, and in Track, nine boys qualified for the Regional competition and the girls took three 1 st place spots in the District in shot, javelin and high jump.
School Clubs:
There are six national honor societies to which qualifying students may be invited to participate: National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta math honor society, Quill & Scroll honorary journalism society, Spanish Honor Society, French Honor Society and the newest, the National English Honor Society for which DLS received the first charter in the state.
