Mission Statement:
The Child Development Centers build the educational foundation for all children to realize their full potential. CDC Values: Compassion, Effective Communication, Knowledgeable, Patience, Professionalism, and Respect
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
The LBUSD Child Development Centers believe it is important to build a strong foundation in reading, writing, and mathematics;
to develop self-esteem and respect for others;
to address the individual needs, interests and concerns of all children by planning a variety of activities;
to meet the educational needs of all children by using instructional strategies that teach different learning styles;
to assist children in practicing good personal health, safety, and nutrition habits; and to support children in developing responsibility and independence.
School History:
The LBUSD Child Development Centers opened their first preschool in 1941, to support the widows who were living in the Navy housing project. In 1943 the project was extended to include school age care services, and the program grew to 21 preschool and school age care centers across Long Beach, Signal Hill and Lakewood. Today the program has continued to grow to 28 centers serving subsidized and fee based families in our part day and full day preschool programs as well as our TK-5th grade fee based and subsidized school age care programs.
