California Historical Society, through our exhibits, special programs and library inspire all visitors to make California's richly diverse past a meaningful part of their contemporary lives. CHS holds one of the richest collections of primary and secondary material in the state on the social, cultural, economic, and political development of California

Exhibits: “A Wild Flight of the Imagination: The Story of the Golden Gate Bridge” through October 14, 2012. There are many artifacts (hardhat, diving suit, cable, rivets, etc) as well as architectural drawings, photographs, and paintings to bring the experience of the building of the bridge alive. For school groups, we can also arrange button-making activities with bridge images. And we are the only downtown building painted International Orange!
