Genomic Psychiatry Cohort (GPC): Genomic Parsing of Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia: Studies of Large Cohorts in the U.S.

Focus of Study:

This study involves research in genetics that could be used to develop genetic testing in the future. If you decide to participate in this study, you will be involved in genetic research, not genetic testing

Purpose:

The purpose of this research study to create a large repository (database) at the NIMH of data and specimens collected from individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder: (‘NIMH Repository’) and from control subjects without schizophrenia or a family history of schizophrenia. The information stored in the Repository will be used in future research studies investigating how genetic makeup relates to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The purpose of the repository is to conduct further research using the collected blood samples to find genes that increase the chance of developing schizophrenia and bipolar disorder or that affect the disease course.
