In the summer of 2008, Santa Barbara City College offers you the opportunity to combine language study with an immersion in the Italian culture in the beautiful Tuscan town of Viareggio . The hillside, the Apuan Alps and the lake of Massaciuccoli surround the town, which is the home of Lorenzo Viani, the composer Giacomo Puccini and the writer Mario Tobino. Until the nineteenth century Viareggio was a small seaman and fisherman's village. It was built on both sides of the Burlamacca Canal, which runs from the inland area directly to the sea and divides the whole area into two parts with its docks and the port which today enjoys a great deal of commercial, industrial, and tourist activity. Students on the program will receive language instruction at the Centro Giacomo Puccini |

We place great emphasis on our selection and training of teachers. We look for lively, well-educated, motivated, interesting people who will be capable of motivating all their students. They must be native Italian speakers and have a University degree; in addition, they have prepared themselves for their inter-cultural task through intensive studies covering various topic areas; they have been trained in both traditional and more modern teaching methods and frequently use role-play, rhythm excercises and word games. |
