Eighth Grade Graduation Song

Author: Paula Hrbacek
Lesson Plan:

When You’re Going to School,
To the tune of “When You Go Through Hell” by Rodney Atkins
Words by Paula Hrbacek

When it gets to late September, and it’s time to go on back,
And the bullies start to kick you, knock the books out of your sack,
Your grades are poor to failing, and it can’t get worse than that,
And then they do.

You step off that yellow bus
And you don't know where you are
Think of graduation, but you just can’t see that far.
Ask a question of a senior, and just to tick you off they lie to you…
That’s when you learn the truth.

When you’re going through school,
Keep improving,
Don’t slack off,
If you’re lost, ask a question,
And you might graduate before the teacher ever knows your name.

You forgot about the test, and you just can’t answer that,
With a hundred different teachers and detention on your back,
And you know if you mouth off you’ll be retained into the grade that you am in.

But the good news is there's teachers in every class you see,
Holding out a hand to help you pull your grades back to a C
To make you understand how you can be the very best that you can be.
When you get an education.

When you’re going through school,
Keep improving,
Don’t cut class,
Just walk right to it,
And you might graduate before the teacher ever knows your name.
