Lesson Plan:  Irregular Verbs Hot Seat

Age Group:  Middle School

Objective:  To give students practice in the use of irregular verbs

Materials:  A set of index cards, the sheet of irregular verbs

Prior Knowledge:

Explanation of irregular verbs and how they differ from regular verbs

Procedures:

1.  Print the enclosed sheet of irregular verbs, cut and paste one verb on each index card.

2.  Place one card upside down on each student’s desk.  Choose a student to go to the front of the class and sit on the “hot seat” (a stool or a chair).   Call on a student who gives the present tense of an irregular verb listed on their card. ex. Break

3.  The student on the hot seat then gives the rest of the information on the card.  The student remains on the hot seat until five have been answered correctly.  If a student misses, then he/she is out.  The student who asked the question then reads the correct answer and assumes the hot seat.

4.  This works as a quick five minute introduction activity during the unit on verbs or as a longer review prior to testing
