Information

Major Exhibits:
Wonders of Science: This introductory section displays scientific animations that illustrate ground-breaking scientific research and includes a film, What is the Universe Made Of? The film and animations are updated periodically.  See how scientists are attacking some of the most mind-boggling questions in the universe. Including, "What is the universe made of?" and "Why is the universe expanding faster and faster?"

Global Warming Facts and Our Future: This exhibition explores issues related to global warming, including possible implications of this phenomenon for the quality of life worldwide.  Is the climate warming? Are we the cause? These questions are at the heart of today's public debate about global warming. Conflicting opinions are everywhere, but now is your chance to cut through the noise and discover the facts.

Infectious Disease: This exhibition explores the microbial world we live in, examines the emergence of new threats, and shows how our response determines the spread of disease.

2007 Exhibits:
Infectious Disease: We share the world with viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. Some are beneficial, but new threats continue to emerge. The choices you make affect your health and the health of your community.

Class Trips

Class Trip Programs:
The museum has identified unique, inquiry-based activities related to its Global Warming and Infectious Disease exhibits that are designed for middle and high-school students and adhere to the National Academies' National Science Education Standards. These activities can be used in the classroom to help introduce students to basic global warming and infectious disease concepts and vocabulary and then to reinforce and enhance the ideas and concepts found in the museum exhibits.

For a field trip classes choose to focus on either global warming or infectious disease, then divide into teams to explore the museum's exhibits. Afterward, students participate in a peer-teaching exercise that culminates in a whole class discussion focused on a specific question.

Please refer to our website to schedule a field trip, download activities or to obtain detailed information on our educational programs.
