Program Information:

The mission of The Hub Teen Center & Skatepark is to provide a safe, supervised, substance-free environment to encourage recreational and enrichment activities for young adults in the hours when school is not in session. The Hub provides compelling and healthy activities for teens after school and during the summer. With community support, staff and teens built an indoor performance stage/skateboard mini ramp and installed electric circuits and stage lighting to facilitate live music, theater performances, and videography on the stage. Free guitar and drum instruction is offered in our music room. Workstations for digital, video, photo, and music editing are available to create ‘skate videos’ and art photography for the walls of the teen center. Teens are involved in maintenance and improvements to the outdoor skatepark, where repairs are ongoing and basic carpentry is a constant need. Other projects including mural projects, construction of new skatepark features, and landscaping all involve Hub teens purposefully as preventative and educational programs. We have a dedicated staff position for nutrition, cooking, and gardening programs, responsible for planning a new teen-run garden to supplement The Hub’s nutrition program, generating the opportunity for Hub teens to engage their community through donations of surplus produce to seniors, and developing entrepreneurial acumen with a Farmer’s Market stand in the summer. The staff of The Hub provides dynamic leadership, encouraging teen creativity and input about improvements to The Hub and its programming.
