History:

The Kendallville Day Care Center is a not-for profit child care center and is licensed by the state of Indiana through the Family and Social Services Administration, Division of Family and Children. We began our mission in September 1971, caring for 20 children, ages 3-5, at the Elmwood Mennonite Church. Outgrowing the church facilities, a city lot at 342 East Lisle Street was purchased and a modular classroom style building was set on a permanent foundation. The center opened on March 1, 1974, with the capacity of enrolling 34 children. In September of 1989, the center expanded to a license capacity of 105 children, ages 3 years through Kindergarten. In the summer of 2002, we expanded our childcare services to include school-age children, ages 6-12. On November 6, 2000, the Kendallville Day Care Center had the honor of opening a second center located at 601 Orchard Place Parkway, licensed for children 6 weeks through 6 years. Both centers are currently rated a Level 3 with the Paths to Quality Program.

Program Highlights:

Enrolled in Paths to Quality Level 3, IDEM Five Star Environmental Recognition Program, State Licensed, and Child and Adult Care Food Program.

Support Services:

Offers financial assistant with a sliding fee scale on tuition, and accepts CCDF BrightPoint vouchers

Activities:

The Kendallville Day Care Center School-Age Program uses the Indiana Afterschool Standards as well as the nationally recognized Creative Curriculum to develop the curriculum, classroom environment, and weekly experience plans. Children are able to come before school to a welcoming and nurturing environment, enjoy a healthy breakfast, and safely get on the bus and depart for school.

Our after school program provides a destination for children to get off the bus, eat a healthy snack, and participate in experiences of interest that are academically enriching as well as fun and exciting. Children are given the opportunity to relax and “unwind” from their day at school. We provide full day services to school-age children during cancellations and school-year breaks.

Field Trip Destinations: During summer break the children participate in daily field trips within walking distance to several local businesses (Ex: Public Library, City Hall, local pizzeria, Humane Shelter, etc.) The children are given the opportunity to become tourists in their own community and become enriched in their local culture. Children may enroll in the school age program once they have begun Kindergarten.
Slogan: Providing an educational foundation while caring for young children.
