The organization is committed to the belief that public participation in and access to the arts on a free or affordable basis fosters community development and engagement, thus creating a strong foundation for southern Westchester and its surrounding areas.

In 1969, the Center was born as the Pelham Art Happening, a town-wide art and music festival developed by members of the Pelham Junior League and artists in the community. Since 1976, the Art Center has been located on the main street of Pelham, and since 1985 it has occupied its present location.
