Computer Capabilities:
16 public access computers with internet and Microsoft office programs; wireless access available.
Education Programs: GED prep. classes, English as second language classes; various classes throughout the year(ASL and Native American art/Cherokee language in past years); toddler time and story time for preschoolers during the school year. Beginning and advanced computer classes.
Summer Programs: Summer Reading program for all ages, preschool - adult. Prizes for reading, entertainment programs, movies and story telling.
Membership Details:
FREE. Adults (18+) must have photo ID with current address. Young people (under 18) must have legal guardian sign for membership AND permission to use computers.
Library Information:
Archive local history and photographs. SRS connection point. Alternative high school library. Adult book discussions. Large community meeting room. House the Chamber of Commerce office. Interlibrary loan service. Notary available on day and evening shifts.
Library History:
Founded in 1977 in an old school building, built in 1948, and rented from the school district. Betty Cattrell was named, and is now, the Director.In the present location, a "temporary" metal building since 1990. Hoping to build a new building in 2007, if the voters support it.
Exhibits: Art exhibits. Monthly change of collections of all kinds and interests (currently Pinky and the Brain). Quilters every Mon. & Wed. 9-2.
Events:
Sale of annual city-wide garage sale permits: sale Aug. 12-13. Book sale at city fall festival Oct. 20-22. Christmas open house Dec. 22.
