Philosophy/Belief Statement:

National Heritage Academies (NHA) and Emerson Academy of Dayton are guided by a few key principles: first, we believe that a school environment with high academic and social expectations is necessary for students to thrive; second, NHA and Emerson believes that parents have the ultimate responsibility for their children's education and, thus, will choose what is best for their children; third, we believe that a school should support and reinforce the moral guidance a child receives at home; and lastly, we believe that a child's self-esteem is developed through diligence and achievement.

School History:

National Heritage Academies (NHA) purchased the 5th - 8th Grade Dayton Christian School Building in the spring of 2004. Emerson School was named after Ralph Waldo Emerson, a famous poet and writer. Dayton Public Schools built Emerson as a K-8 building in 1924 to replace the original school building. The original building, built in 1864, stood in the parking lot west of the current school building. NHA, in keeping with local tradition, named the school Emerson Academy of Dayton.
