"I was very pleasantly surprised. I have had more communication with the teacher than I have with other teachers during the school year! She sends emails and phone calls to follow up with the students and has very encouraging and positive comments to keep them going. The class itself hasn't been a breeze, there are writing assignments, article and stories to read and papers to write. The material is presented in many different ways, not just in print, Whether a visual or audio learner they will have the same chance at success. There are videos and different examples to make sure the student is understanding the concept. The teacher also can change the module to better serve/reach the needs of the student. I have absolutely no hesitations about my child taking classes this school year on line." Didi Farrell, 8th Grade Parent.
"I asked George tonight what he thought of the online class and he said it was "really cool". When I first told him he was going to do an online summer school course he was not very excited. The class was a review of his last year at school. After we had an orientation with his teacher, I started doing the course with him , but he quickly took over and was easily navigating through the pages. The coursework was very engaging. I thought he would need my help because he is only 7 years old, but after the first day's work, he knew how to login and start where he left off. I think he really enjoyed it, because it started off with easy concepts and that helped to build his confidence. As the course got harder he had the confidence to work through it. The quizzes were great at the end of the sections. They showed how much he retained and what he needed to work on. George also enjoyed the interactions with the teacher. At the end of the daily work George would email his homework, he learned how to scan and attach pictures to email. He also would read the emails responses from Mrs. DiSalvo. I cannot believe how much more advanced my kids are compared to where I was at their age. Another great thing about the course was the fact we could login any time, day or night. George worked at his own pace, because in the summer we don't have a set routine sometimes he logged in, in the morning and sometimes he logged in at night. . We did not have to give up a vacation because he had to stay around to attend a class.
At the beginning of the summer I spent money getting math and reading workbooks to use over the summer. If next summer they have a course that reviews the years work and introduces the next years concepts, I would love to do an online course instead of the workbooks.
I am very excited about the potential of this program. I have a friend who's daughter took online courses throughout High school and is entering college as a second semester sophomore. What a great savings for her parents! So I know what a benefit this will be not only for the students but for the parents as well." Eleanor Schnell, Parent
