Mission Statement:
The Center for Hearing and Communication’s mission is to improve the quality of life for infants, children, and adults with all degrees of hearing loss.
We accomplish our mission by providing hearing rehabilitation and human services for people who are hard of hearing or deaf, and their families, regardless of age, ability to pay, or mode of communication, and by striving to empower consumers to achieve their potential.
Our leadership is exemplified by adhering to the highest clinical standards, conducting extensive hearing conservation and public education programs about hearing, and developing best practice models for disciplines that relate to hearing and research.
Membership Fee: No membership is required. Memberships are offered starting at thirty-five dollars per year.
Eligibility Requirements: Persons with a hearing loss or families of persons with a hearing loss.

History:
The Center for Hearing and Communication was established in 1910 under the name Nitchie Service League, Inc. by educator Edward B. Nitchie and later became known as the League for the Hard of Hearing and most recently, the Center for Hearing and Communication. Our organization was created to improve the quality of life for people of all ages with a hearing loss. That mission continues to drive us today. By offering the highest level of clinical expertise and compassionate care, we empower individuals to achieve their full potential and assure a world without limits for all people with hearing loss.
The Center for Hearing and Communication is the only full service agency in Broward County that has been steadfast for more than 24 years, in helping Deaf and hard of hearing (D/HOH) persons, significant others and their families.
Detailed Organization Information:
The Center for Hearing and Communication, CHC, (new name for the League for the Hard of Hearing) is a not-for-profit organization that provides hearing health services to people of all ages who have a hearing loss. With offices in New York City and Florida, CHC meets all of your hearing and communication needs through professional services that offer the highest level of clinical expertise and technical know-how available in the hearing healthcare field.
In particular, Center for Hearing and Communication Florida, CHC-FL, provides complete audiological services, including hearing tests, hearing aide evaluations, aural rehabilitation, and counseling on both hearing loss and hearing aides. CHC-FL also offers individual psychotherapy, family/group/couples counseling, play therapy, in-home behavior therapy, presentations to the community, case management, job/search placement, substance abuse and prevention and health lecture series (completely accessible). In addition, CHC-FL provides children's programs for elementary, middle, and high school youth throughout the school year and summer. CHC-FL also provides no cost amplified telephones for Florida residents, Sign Language classes, facilitates interpreting, advocacy and referral services. There are no alternative programs for persons or parents in need of care who have inadequate insurance or income.
