History:
Established in 1950, The Mental Health Association of Monmouth County is an affiliate of the New Jersey Mental Health Association and the National, Mental Health America.
The Mental Health Association of Monmouth County is dedicated to promoting mental health and wellness, the prevention of mental illness and the improved care and treatment of persons affected by mental illness. Our mission is accomplished through MHA’s strength based innovative programs, by advocacy, educating and shaping public policy.
Our mission is guided by the following principles:
Mental health is essential to the development and realization of every person’s full potential.
Justice demands that everyone, regardless of mental or physical disability, has rights and responsibilities of full participation in society.
Sufficient resources need to be available for a complete range of community mental health and support services, public education, and preventive interventions.
People with mental illnesses can recover and live healthy and productive lives.
Children and adults should have access to a full array of high quality, community-based, integrated mental health services, regardless of ability to pay.
Services must be culturally diverse and accessible to individuals where ever they live.
MHAMC values partnerships and sees public and private sector participation as essential to community mental health.
Detailed Organization Information:
The Mental Health Association of Monmouth County (MHAMC) envisions a just, humane, healthy society in which people with mental illness are accorded dignity and the opportunity to achieve their full potential, free from stigma, prejudice and other barriers to care and recovery.
A holistic approach to services provides clients and their families with treatment techniques that are empowering and solution oriented.
Established in 1950, the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County is a non-profit, grassroots organization that is an affiliate of the New Jersey Mental Health Association and Mental Health America (formerly known as National Mental Health Association). MHAMC is dedicated to promoting mental health and improving the care and treatment of children and adults with mental illness through advocacy, education and client services. MHAMC has been a strong voice for social change, spearheading systems reform by encouraging innovative solutions and exposing shameful abuse and sub-standard care.
MHAMC has two subsidiary corporations. The Mental Health Association Foundation provides financial support and strategic advice regarding fundraising and public awareness of MHAMC’s services. In 1991, the MHAMC incorporated the Affordable Housing Alliance, formerly known as the Monmouth Housing Alliance, as a non-profit housing development corporation dedicated to providing safe, affordable and decent housing for people with limited incomes and special needs. Under their capable management, they now own more than 250 rental units.
MHAMC operates under the governance of an Operating Board of Directors with the collaboration and support of the Foundation Board of Directors, both of whom continue to make extraordinary contributions to the MHAMC mission and goals.
