Mission Statement:

NAMI-MN's mission is to champion justice, dignity, and respect for all people affected by mental illness. Through education, advocacy, and support, we strive to eliminate the pervasive stigma of mental illness, affect positive changes in the mental health system, and increase public and professional understanding of mental illness.

Services Offered:
Provides Education, Support and Advocacy for children and adults with mental illness and their families, as well as free classes for teachers
Events:

Annual Day on the Hill and Rally, Walk for Awareness, Classes and workshops for families, professionals, and children and adults with mental illness, and a Silver Ribbon Campaign supporting teens in schools who are dealing with the stigma of mental illness

Conferences/Speakers: Annual State Educational Conference, Annual Research Dinner, Speaker's Bureau, and various training programs
Fundraisers: Annual Spring Gala, Music for the Mind (fall)
Support Groups: For families and persons with mental illness
History:

First organized in 1977 by a group of mothers who were fed up with the unplanned closing of state hospitals and the lack of ANY community support for persons with mental illness. NAMI Minnesota has had many victories in getting decision-makers to create needed community supports and services. The organization strongly advocates for an improved mental health system, offers educational and support opportunities for children and adults with mental illness and their families, and works to end stigma and discrimination.
