Description:

The primary mission of The Bird Dog Foundation, Inc. is to preserve and promote the traditions of bird dogs, field trials, and hunting & shooting sports. The mission of the Wildlife Heritage Center, the eductaional arm of The Bird Dog Foundation, Inc., is to instill conservation interests and environmental awareness among our young citizens and future sportsmen. The Wildlife Heritage Center contains the William F. Brown Memorial Library, which features a diverse collection of research and reading material on bird dogs, field trialing, upland game bird hunting, waterfowling, shooting sports, art, conservation, wildlife and related themes. The National Bird Dog Museum complex features: Over 200 mounted taxidermy specimens; several original bronze and metal art sculptures;hundreds of pieces of original art in several different medias, historical memoriabilia, etc. The Wildlife Heritage Center sponsors several educational programs designed for teachers and students: an annual Art Contest and College Scholarship Essay Contest; a free summer reading programs for early elementary level children and School Field Trips with live demonstrations, etc. The Museum also features a Gift Shop.

Free Admission (Donations Appreciated)

Student Field Trips are Free/Advance reservations should be made through the Education Coordinator.

Instructors are advised to schedule a class field trip approximately two weeks in advance with The Bird Dog Foundation Education Coordinator. The Phone number is (731) 764-2058. Students will be given a guided tour of the facility, shown a videotape of the history of the museum, have the opportunity to visit our gift shop and experience a live demonstration and explanation of a wild animal with a wildlife officer. Other live demonstrations include watching a trained hunting dog go through paces with their trainer, etc. Field Trips may be custom designed to meet the needs of a particular group or class age.

Exhibits: The National Bird Dog Museum has a permanent collection and exhibit of prints, photographs and original paintings of championship winning people and dogs and memorabilia associated with the sport. The Field Trial Hall of Fame areas contain portraits & articles of the inductees.This includes sportsmen,handlers, owners,trainers and their distinguished hunting and retrieving dogs. Other permanent exhibits contain over 200 mounted taxidermied specimens of waterfowl, birds, mammals and reptiles.
Additional Information:

The Museum complex is handicapped accessible and contains approximately 24,000 square feet of interior space. Spacious outdoor grounds permit live demonstrations in the techniques of bird dog training and performance. Visitors often remark on the quality of the Museum and characterize it as "World Class" quality.
