Around the outside of the school we planted @ 22 Cherry, Crabapple, Arborvitte, along with a couple of Weeping Cherries. This year we will be adding a 30x20 Vegetable garden. Over the years we've had several Killdeers nest in the courtyard and this summer we had 8 ducklings born in the courtyard and they just left this past week.

Mission Statement:

To teach the students about the environment and how to take care of plants and at the same time have some fun after school. We offer a nice place for the art classes to come out and draw, reading classes to come out and read/write and a place for the science classes to come and study Botony firsthand.

Philosophy/Belief Statement:

Respect Mother Nature and have fun.

Program History:

Started the Club in '98 with about 6 students and a patch of dirt by the dumpsters outside the cafeteria loading dock. Planted spring flowers and a flowering Pear tree.Neighbors enjoyed the color (other than the blue dumpsters) and our principal was impressed. From there we worked up to 30-40 students who worked on the gardens @ 20 hours a week up to '04 when we got a principal who didn't believe in our work. the garden then went into disrepair. We ahve anew principal now who agrees with our purpose and we have begun cleaning up our gardens. Most of the trees have been trimmed along with all the shrubs. We've got the grass in the courtyard growing again and comespring we'll clean up the pond and the mini gardens outside the school and start our vegetable garden in the courtyard.

Volunteer Participation: None. Not too many people want to come to the "city". We do alright and we get some help with the heavy "stuff" from our Parks Department personell.
