Program Highlights:
We are using organic permaculture to raise fruits, berries, vegetables, herbs, and chickens for our own dining hall. We are a new school garden/farm in the process of multiuse land development of 7 acres for gardens, exercise path, dog park, children's garden, meditation garden, and pond. We are a New England boarding prep school.
Mission Statement:
We seek to teach our students the value of wholesome food and good nutrition as well as the importance of responsible and sustainable gardening and farming techniques that they may use themselves in the future.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
Students are far too disconnected from nature, the soil, and wholesome unprocessed foods. We understand the value of gardening knowledge for students in a future with questionable and unreliable food sources.
Program History:
The program started this spring 2010 with "seed" money from our school trustees.
Volunteer Participation: During the summer resident families and students are involved with the program. In the future we would like to involve the community (e.g. veterans home, special youth services, neighbors) as well.
