Program Highlights:

The Hampton's Community 4-H /CHROME program's highlight was to be selected as a model city-wide gardening enrichment program in Virginia in th school year 2008-2009

Mission Statement:

The mission of the program is to engage students in quality academic learning activities to promote a better understanding of Virginia's Standards of Learning in science, mathematics and social studies.

Philosophy/Belief Statement:

All individuals should have positive learning experiences to develop their knowledge in content areas.

Program History:

The Hampton Community CHROME/4-H Enrichment program was implemented in 1999 by Gwyndolyn Lee-Lomax a second grade teacher of Hampton Public Schools. The program received was approved as an outreach program under the umbrella of Hampton's City Parks and Recreation Department. The program services students in grades K-8 in Hampton's community centers.
The promotes academic enrichments in the sciences, mathematics and social studies content areas. Students and their parents come to monthly meetings to engage in hands on academic activities and meeting community experts from surrounding universities, businesses. governmental agencies, and professional organizations . The volunteer program has serviced 450 students during its existence. The program is funded by donations, in-kind grants, and community partners.
