Program Highlights:
Our staff has received extensive training from Life Lab Science on developing a garden to kitchen curriculum. We have converted three unused and barren enclosed courtyards into three outdoor classrooms: Sensory Garden, Veggie Garden, and The Rose Barrette Garden. Other features include a student kitchen that was converted from our old cafeteria kitchen and a student science lab. We have 14 raised veg/fruit/herb beds, greenhouse, 4 chickens, 2 rabbits, bird houses, outdoor kitchen, rain barrels, and composters.
Program History:
Our district applied for a federal magnet school grant 3 years ago to converty 5 of our elementary buildings into theme related schools. Our building's theme is Health, Wellness and Environmental Studies.
Volunteer Participation: We have developed strong relationships with our local university, two local hospitals, local garden centers , a local produce farmer and other children centered professionals.
