Mission Statement:
Ace of Hearts is dedicated to rescuing dogs from various Los Angeles County and City shelters on the day they’re scheduled for euthanasia, and finding them loving, qualified homes. We specialize in “bully breeds”, but rescue all breeds and don’t discriminate against any! We rehabilitate and place dogs in the right home. We believe through education, spay and neuter outreach and proper “people training”, we can achieve our mission to make Los Angeles a no-kill city.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
Greater Los Angeles County shelters euthanize an average of 500 dogs every day! Ace of Hearts has rescued over 2,000 dogs from death row since 2001 and helped them get adopted into their perfect forever homes. We take in many dogs other organizations are reluctant to rescue because of their size or breed. We also rescue dogs that have been severely abused, get them the medical care and rehabilitation/training they need, and give them the chance for happy lives in loving homes.
Our Spay/Neuter Outreach program focuses on low-income, underserved communities in South Central and East Los Angeles; we distribute bilingual flyers educating guardians about the necessity of altering their pets to comply with LA’s Mandatory Spay/Neuter Law. We also provide vouchers to qualified guardians for reduced or no-cost vet services, and when necessary, help arrange for transportation to and from the vet.
Ace of Hearts also works with victims of the foreclosure crisis, helping them find alternatives to surrendering pets to shelters after losing their homes. Our Founder Kari Whitman negotiated a special Renters Insurance with State Farm that includes breeds not covered by traditional renters insurance, making it easier for guardians to find apartments. Since Ace of Hearts specializes in bully breeds, this insurance coverage has allowed numerous guardians to avoid relinquishing their beloved pets.
Program History:
Founder Kari Whitman established Ace of Hearts in honor of her beloved bulldog "Ace" whom she rescued from death row. Whitman founded her non-profit in 2001, and has rescued and found homes for over 2,000 dogs to date!
Events:
Weekly adoption events on Saturdays at the West Hollywood Petco. Dog walking, fostering, transportation, office assistance and more!
Additional Information:
There are thousands of dogs waiting on death row who need your help! Make furry friends and help save lives--volunteer for Ace of Hearts today!
