Mission Statement:

Allegro Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization that combines movement instruction with educational and medical expertise, creating a new vehicle to teach children with disabilities. The children they teach are individuals with mental retardation, Down syndrome, orthopedic challenges (wheelchairs and walkers), spina bifida, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, visual and hearing impairments, muscular dystrophy, children “at-risk,” and children with cancer.

Additional Information:

Allegro offers movement classes to children with disabilities in schools and community outreach classes around Charlotte. In class we incorporate costumes, props (like hula-hoop’s and beanbags), and music to allow children with disabilities to learn in a new and fun way. They are able to stretch their muscles and interact with peers. In class our volunteers are paired with a student to act as a “buddy” to the child, helping them learn and participate in class. Allegro's classes meet for 30 minutes each week.
