Program History:

The American Diabetes Association is the nation’s premier voluntary health organization supporting diabetes research, information and advocacy. Founded in 1940, the Association's mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by
diabetes. The Association's commitment to research is reflected through its scientific meetings; education and provider recognition programs; and its Research Foundation and Nationwide Research Program, which fund breakthrough studies looking into the cure, prevention, and treatment of diabetes and its complications.

Tour de Cure is a one day,non- competitive cycling event in which participants raise funds and awareness for diabetes. Four scenic and supported routes (12, 20, 32,63 and 100 mile distances)are designed  for every level of cycling. Another opportunity to be involved with the American Diabetes Association is through our School Walk for Diabetes Program. This is an educational school fundraising program that promotes healthy living, school spirit and community involvement. While raising money for our organization, students learn the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes and the importance of making healthy choices. The money raised through School Walk for Diabetes helps to fund diabetes research, education and advocacy.
