Mission Statement:
Now in its second century, the American Lung Association is the leading organization working to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease. The American Lung Association is “Fighting for Air” through research, education and advocacy.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
We will breathe easier when the air in every American community is clean and healthy.
We will breathe easier when people are free from the addictive grip of tobacco and the debilitating effects of lung disease.
We will breathe easier when the air in our public spaces and workplaces is clear of secondhand smoke.
We will breathe easier when children no longer battle airborne poisons or fear an asthma attack.
Until then, we are fighting for air.
Program History:
The American Lung Association has educational programs for children and adults and support groups for people with lung disease. Our Lungs4Life program educates middle and high schools students about the importance of lung health and the avoidance of risk factors including inhalant use, tobacco and other inhaled illegal drugs. Our Tools for Schools program works with schools to reduce environmental asthma triggers and indoor air pollution in the classroom. Open Airways for Schools is an educational program for children with asthma in grades 3 through 5, teaching them how to manage their asthma. Our Better Breather Clubs provide support and education for adults with COPD and other lung disease.
Events:
Fight for Air Climb Palm Beach, Inspire Life Breathe Free Luncheon, Jewels of Life Luncheon, Lake Worth Food and Wine Experience, Legacy Place Food and Wine Experience
Additional Information:
We always need volunteers to help with our special events - on the day of the event, as well as with planning and marketing the event. We sometimes need volunteer computer and clerical help with various projects. We are currently looking for a part-time receptionist for our office. All volunteers must be non-smokers. We have a beautiful LEED certified "green" office building in West Palm Beach and a great working environment.
