Program History:

The BREAD of Life Homeless Project began in December 1992 as a Houston, inner-city outreach ministry of St. John’s United Methodist Church. The project, founded by Pastors Rudy and Juanita Rasmus, began as volunteers and nine members serving dinners in the parking lot to homeless men, women and children.

Bread of Life, Inc. has now become the “Lighthouse” of downtown Houston. Nine years later we have staff members available seven days a week with our Pathway to Hope homeless services program, COPE HIV/AID outreach and education program, DayBreak Community Health Center , Resurrection House transitional living facility, REACH education, job training and job placement program, and St. John’s Academy to provide an array of services to the less fortunate and disenfranchised of Houston. St. John’s Academy specifically outreaches to children living with HIV/AIDS, pre-exposure to drugs and alcohol, and other developmental delays in an environment that promotes healing and unconditional love.
Bread of Life is committed to restoring families by restoring individuals. BOL offers a continuum of care that cultivates the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical well being of men, women and children living in challenging situations with the ultimate goal of moving families from “total dependency” to “self sufficiency.”
