Mission Statement:
The mission of the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House is to foster a greater understanding of the relationships between plants and animals in the environment in order to promote the conservation and restoration of natural habitats.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
To impact science and natural history education, to promote environmental stewardship through example, and to provide family recreation. Our volunteers area vital part of our facility and are valued for their contribuitions of time and energy.
Program History:
The Butterfly House opened in 1998 and our volunteer program actually started in 1995 which clearly illistrautes how involved our volunteers are. Our volunteer program ahs grown from only a few volunteers helping wiht out reach programs to our current program which has ~ 200 regular volunteers and 400 eposodic volunteers helping in 8 differnt postitions.
Events:
Family orineted events with crafts, educational games, and acvitties are offered ~ 6 times a year. They include, but are not limited to: Hot, hot, Hot in January; March Morpho ManiaTM in March; Bed Bugs story time in April; Earth Day in April; Father's Day event; Bug Hunt in July; Owl Outings in October; Botterflies in Ocober; plus craft Saturdays through out the year and other educational programs. Our website lists upcoming events.
