Mission Statement:
To improve the quality of life for foster youth and juvenile offenders with stable and consistent advocacy and mentoring provided through trained community volunteers.
Program History:
C.A.S.A. of San Bernardino County was started in 1984 by a juvenile dependency judge. Since then, our program has served hundreds of children within the San Bernardino Juvenile Dependency system by connecting them with resources, advocating for their best interests, and sharing the child's wishes with the court. Our agency is responsible for recruiting, training and supervising community member volunteers to partner with a child in the foster care system, on a one-on-one basis.
Additional Information:
A Court Appointed Special Advocate (C.A.S.A.) is a trained volunteer who is appointed by the judge to represent the best interests of a child currently under the jursidiction of the Juvenile Dependency Court. A C.A.S.A. volunteer provides a judge with recommendations that help the court make a sound decision about the child's future. Each case is as unique as the child involved.
Educational Advocates are designed as the educational rights holder for the child/youth currently under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Dependency Court. The role of the Educational Advocate includes but may not be limited to: Meeting with the child/youth to assess their views of any educational needs, ensuring that the child/youth's educational rights are being met, working with the school regarding the child's educational needs or educational program, and facilitating collaborative interaction between the school and other agencies that work with the child.
Our volunteers come from all walks of like, with a variety of professional, educational and ethnic backgrounds.
Please contact us for additional information at the phone number provided. You can also join us at an information session held the first Thursday of every month from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Call to RSVP and for location information.
