Mission Statement:
Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching and the Gospel imperative, Catholic Community Services and the Archdiocesan Housing Authority are outreaches of the Catholic Church in Western Washington, under the leadership of the Archbishop of Seattle and the Boards of Trustees. CCS and AHA answer the Gospel call to loving and compassionate service with particular concern for the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death and the dignity of the human person. Our employees and volunteers come from many faith traditions to serve and support poor and vulnerable people through the provision of quality, integrated services and housing. Our focus is on those individuals, children, families, and communities struggling with poverty and the effects of intolerance and racism. We actively join with others to work for justice.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
We Believe...
...in every child growing up in a safe, loving and nurturing environment.
…in the elders living in security and dignity.
...in healthy family life being affirmed and supported in our communities.
...in every person having the right to a safe, affordable place to call home.
...in compassion, love and respect for all people, especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
...in joining with others to change the systems which oppress, discriminate or otherwise cause human suffering.
...in employees and volunteers working in an environment which offers respect, teamwork and excellence.
...in all these things for all people, whatever their color, whatever language they speak or however they worship.
Program History:
Volunteer Chore Services (VCS) is committed to helping elders and adults with disabilities remain independent in their own homes through a network of caring community members. VCS collaborates with faith-based congregations, civic groups, schools and community businesses to provide services. The services are provided at no charge and serve as a safety net for those individuals who cannot afford to pay for assistance and do not qualify for paid chore assistance. Some of the services volunteers can provide include: light housekeeping, laundry, shopping assistance, transportation, cooking, minor home repair, respite, and yard work. Volunteers generally provide 2-8 hours per month assisting their neighbors depending on their schedules and availability.
Additional Information:
Volunteer Drivers NeededVolunteer Chore Services desperately needs volunteer drivers to take low-income elderly clients to doctor appointments. These clients have no other way to get to their appointments; they either do not qualify for other programs, are not able to take the bus or live off the bus route. Please help us get these folks the medical attention they need! Drivers use their own cars and receive mileage reimbursement. Rides are dispatched by our staff and clear directions are given. Drive weekly or daily; whatever fits your schedule. Must have a valid WA drivers license and clean driving record, and will undergo a WA State Patrol background check.
Lend a Hand Volunteers Needed!
Volunteers assist elderly and disabled adults with household tasks, transportation to medical appointments, shopping, minor home repairs, yard care and other essential errands. WA State Patrol background check and signed confidentiality form required. Drivers must be 21 and over, have valid WA driver’s license, insurance and own vehicle. Time commitment varies: shopping and housework is usually twice a month, driving can be on-call or days and times you choose. We work with your schedule and preferences. Mileage reimbursement is available. Help someone in your neighborhood live safely and independently.
