GOAL
Colorado Services Dogs, Inc. is an approved 501c3 non-profit organization that was established to train and provide rescued dogs to assist people who have disabilities in leading lives that are more independent at work, at home and at school. These dogs become an extension of their owners and bring security, freedom, independence and relief from social isolation to their human partners.
Program History:
Colorado Service Dogs was incorporated in 2008. Our mission is to provide trained service dogs to people who have disabilities, including ongoing support services and training. CSD works in several Denver metro area counties including in the Pikes Peak Region of Colorado: Denver, Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Douglas, Jefferson, Elbert, El Paso and Teller. A Board of Directors governs us, and with the support of the Colorado community, we placed our first service dog team in the summer of 2008. Our organization’s goals include training and placing 12 dogs a year to assist people who have disabilities in Colorado. Developing a stable and growing base of financial support. Since its inception, the organization has secured legal counsel, wrote its articles of incorporation received 501(c)(3) status, established numerous partnerships throughout the Colorado communities, and placed over 10 dogs in service throughout Colorado. We are in good standing and a registered charitable organization with the Colorado Secretary of State’s office and have adopted the Assistance Dogs International (ADI) standards and ethics.
In October 2009, CSD whelped its very first litter of puppies, seven (7) Labradoodle’s. Of these seven, one (1) started our Canines for Comfort Therapy Dog and Take a Paws and Read Reading Dog Programs, one (1) is in service as a diabetic alert & response dog, one (1) is in service as a seizure alert and response dog, two (2) are in service to help with mobility, one (1) is in service to help a family with autism and one (1) is on service for emotional support.
Additional Information:
Our organization’s development is critical to the disabled of Colorado and our plans include;
* Increasing our service dog placement and funding base on a yearly basis
* Continuing our service dog awareness with community outreach, and
* Becoming a leader in service dog programs in the metro area of Denver.
