Additional Information:
Communities In Schools Dallas Region, Inc. is very excited about your interest in volunteering with our organization! The mission of Communities In Schools Dallas Region, Inc. is to help students at risk of failure stay in school, achieve academically and graduate, to become productive and contributing members of our communities. With this in mind, we believe that every child needs and deserves a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult in order to fulfill our mission.
We have many volunteer opportunities to choose from, and we hope you will consider becoming a mentor and/or tutor at one of our schools. By becoming a mentor and/or tutor, you could help a young student improve their grades, their self confidence and their social skills. Not only will you experience personal satisfaction by knowing you are playing an important role in a student’s growth and success, but volunteering will also look great on your resume and help build upon your current skills. We are searching for mature, dependable, caring individuals like you. Mentoring or tutoring a young adult would only require that you meet with your student at least once a week for one hour at the selected school.
Training is provided to all mentors prior to being matched with the student. We ask that all mentors keep an open mind and be active listeners. Our students are interested in someone who will be there to listen to them and not judge them. They are also interested in learning more about preparing for college, financial aid/scholarship process, and career information.
Prior to volunteering, you will be required to complete and submit a volunteer application. In turn, a criminal background check will be conducted on each interested individual, so please do not forget to attach a copy of your driver's license to the application. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call or email me. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Please feel free to encourage friends, family and co-workers to volunteer!
