Mission Statement:
To distribute food effectively through collaborative efforts that minimize hunger, promote nutrition through self-reliance and education.

Educate the community abuot the problem of hunger, basic nutrition, safe food handling and self-reliance.
Program History:
The Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula is affiliated with Feeding America, The Federation of Foodbanks, and the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula. Since it's inception in 1986, the Foodbank has distributed over 93,000,000 lbs of food to benefit the needy and hungry of the Virginia Peninsula.
Events:
We are looking for volunteers to assist with packaging food for the Backpack for kids program, and to also deliver the bags of food to the schools weekly.
Additional Information:
Through partnerships with 21 Title 1 elementary schools (defined as schools with at least 50% of the children receiving free or reduced price federal school meals), our Backpack program provides weekly, throughout the school year, nutritious bags of food for over 1,200 children. We are looking for volunteers to package the food into individual bags. Monday through Thursday between 9am and 5pm. This is a great team project. Minimium capacity would be 10 people. Warehouse environment, standing. Also, we need help delivering the bags of food to the schools Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am to Noon.
