Mission Statement:

FriendshipWorks' mission is to reduce social isolation, enhance quality of life, and preserve the dignity of frail, isolated elders and disabled adults in Greater Boston. We accomplish this mission by recruiting and training volunteers of all faiths, ages, and backgrounds to provide a range of services, and matching them with frail, low-income elderly and disabled adults.

Additional Information:

Since 1984, we have been committed to providing volunteer support to isolated elders and adults with disabilities living in Boston and Brookline.

We have a variety of volunteer opportunities and offer flexible hours of service.

Our volunteer opportunities include:

Friendly Visiting: Friendly Visitors develop one-on-one relationships with older or disabled adults. They visit once a week for about an hour each visit. Over time, both people grow and learn from each other and often become great friends.

Medical Escorts: Medical Escorts accompany older and disabled adults to and from important medical appointments. This is a flexible opportunity and no car is needed.

Walking Buddies: Accompany a senior on walks around their neighborhood for about an hour each week - providing both companionship and exercise.

One-time Assists: One Time Assistants help with elders' occasional needs such as gift-shopping, packing for a move, or visiting a relative.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please let us know.
