Mission Statement:

The Mission of the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery is to end child abuse and neglect and to create strong, healthy families.

Philosophy/Belief Statement:

As GMCN approaches it 35th anniversary in 2018 we envision a community that has made substantial, measureable progress to eliminate child abuse and neglect. Through GMCN and it's partnering agencies, families access the support they need to address the short and long-term challenges in their lives. GMCN serves as a trusted source for support, advocacy and safety for families and vital link to a well-funded network of services. Every child has a safe family environment in which to grow and thrive.

Program History:

In 1978, the Junior League of Minneapolis conducted research on child abuse and neglect in the Minneapolis area. They found that overstressed parents had no place to bring their children when they needed respite from child care. To fill this need, the League and partnering community groups established the Minneapolis Crisis Nursery, the first agency of its kind in Minnesota (Today it is still the only one in MN). The Crisis Nursery opened in 1983 with the capacity to shelter six children a day. Today we shelter 16 plus 2 county beds.

Events:

We have two large fundraisers annually. We have a Formula for Hope luncheon in the spring and a wine tasting in the fall called Havesting Hope.
